I imagine there are some unique considerations when it comes to the legal industry that will allow it to survive a dormant commerce clause challenge, but I could see someone taking a run at SCR 42.1, which treats Nevada barred lawyers with a physical office in Nevada differently from those who don’t.

Dorsey’s order follows how the practice of law occurs which is that you have to have an office/address in Nevada (or associate with a Nevada office) where papers can be delivered and be licensed in Nevada but do not have actually be in Nevada when you are conducting your business.

There are lots of problems with the summary eviction system; use of hearing masters is not one of the problems.

Also helps to know in which court summary evictions are conducted. “Christopher Peterson, the legal director at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Nevada, told The Nevada Independent that the ACLU of Nevada plans on filing a brief in support of the petition. . . . ‘The problem here is that when tenants are going for justice to the Eighth Judicial District, they don’t have a choice. They’re automatically funneled into these hearing masters’ spots that were not elected,’ he said.

Ironic. I think elected judges receiving campaign donations from certain law firms deprives other litigants of justice. I’d much prefer if they were all not elected like hearing masters (though I’m fine having retention elections for appointed positions).

Now hold on sir. Are you suggesting that a judge who receives hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from personal injury firms and nearly none from defense firms might show a bias toward said personal injury firms? What a scandalous assertion, I simply cannot clutch my pearls any harder.

If the insurance industry and/or the insurance defense firms actually believe this is an issue then they should organize and donate heavily too. And only give the donations during social events where the judge needs to show up and hang out with the id lawyers to get the checks.

In the photo of him, Chad Clement looks very troubled about the point that Todd Bice is making.

A great reminder that photo journalists are both journalists and artists. Look at the contrast between the excess testosterone fueled fascism in knuckle dragging Bongino against the dignity of Bice, Pisanelli, Clement and especially our GOAT Judge Gall.

Did anybody notice that Les Stovall was disbarred the other day?

“the federal district court adjudicated Stovall to have acted in
”bad faith” and to have so prejudiced the fairness of the proceeding to
require the ultimate litigation sanction of dismissal with prejudice” State bar website has it. It has to do with the ronaldo case.

You can download it from Nvbar.org. I knew Les had prior incidents of discipline, but ELEVEN? Wow.

But I thought Bare and company were such benevolent Bar counsel? How could such persistent misconduct have gone on for so long without meaningful change? It’s almost like the behavior got worse…

Those of us with five-digit Bar numbers are sick of the Stovalls of this profession being give chance after chance to clean it up. Enough is (and was) enough. Bye, Felicia.

Les represented himself in this process and thus had a fool for a client. Hint: Don’t represent yourself kids.

Who would want to rep him? He probably could not afford to pay one of the discipline heavy hitters. Their hourly rate is a killer $500 (low end) –$750 on up. This is why discipline is so expensive. If you have to hire one of the attorneys who do these cases and who know the system, you will go broke just to keep from getting a formal and getting suspended. This is even on flimsy charges. You have to hire counsel to keep your record from being blemished. When Rob Bare and David Clark ran the show they did not bring frivolous cases. This why the current bar counsel needs to be constrained and restrained.

Good malpractice insurance usually includes a clause covering bar complaints although you won’t likely get the ‘killer’ HEAVY HITTERS…
