Great use of your law school education . . . and what area of law do you (not) practice?

10:51, your comment assumes that 9:07's poster has a law school education. i understand that this is a law blog but its open to the public and anyone can post, so its not a safe assumption to make. how's that for a law school education, eh? 😉

Instead of the asinine lawyer hot or not thread, should we as professionals talk about more creative, productive, and/or useful topics? For example, who is a well dressed attorney? Where do they get their suits? Who is their tailor? Who has the best shoes? Man purse? Best place to network? Best place for dinner with a client? Best firm to work for? Best DUI attorney? You get the picture.

Eglet, Eglet, Eglet, Eglet, Eglet, Eglet, Eglet, Eglet… topic has already been explored in depth. Nothing is as good as Eglet. I am not Eglet, but I wish I was.

No to man purse. Just no. Get a proper valise.

But would welcome comments on French cuffs and initials embroidered on cuffs. Too ostentatious?

French cuffs are fine. If you get initials on your cuffs, though, you'd better be a named partner in a well-known firm. That's Thurston Howell, III territory right there.

Huge fan of networking groups – Trustegrity, Le Tip, BNI, etc. they are kind of a pain in the ass but I get enough referrals to make it worth it.

I always liked networking in groups, but have had more success in spending one on one time with one good referral source vs. a dozen unproven sources.

"Networking" is a bullshit phrase and idea. Generating business comes down to trust. You establish trust in two ways: (1) through meaningful, real friendships; and (2) by doing good work. There aren't shortcuts.

Untrue–one shortcut is a great ad campaign. Just ASK the Heavy Hitter or one of those guys.

I'm game for this thread. I'm not a named partner at a big firm, just a solo attorney who does pretty well, but I like to dress well. Where do you go to get nice suits? I will admit that I bought 4 Signature Gold suits at Jos. A Bank when they had one of their sales. But that was just to build up my wardrobe. Now I'd like to add some nice looking suits for Court appearances and client meetings. Anybody have some recommendations?

G with a tailor. Oliverwicks.com or garytailor.com make good suits. Gary tailor is better, but more expensive. There are some local tailors also, but you pay double. If you don't mind paying $2000 – $3000 a suit then go local.

I'm glad we're going in this direction because I need to upgrade the wardrobe a bit. I'm transactional, not in court, and I think clothes that look too expensive might send off a "I must be paying my lawyer too much" risk. But somehow going to Men's Wearhouse just doesnt' feel right anymore. I'll check out the tailors mentioned in the thread, but wonder whether others here have the "look sharp but not too sharp" dilemma.

Speaking of page views how do you count alternative viewers? For example, I use BlogTrottr to convert the blog into a daily email. I don't often click through to the actual blog. You may be getting views that you aren't counting.

My only question is whether the Justice League of Nevada will have space in the Federal Tower of Justice.
